Doris' Artist Statement

Doris and her husband, Lars, moved to Grand Rapids in 1994 after living in southern Illinois for 23 years.  In the spring of 1993, Doris retired after 27 years of teaching.  The following fall, Doris and Lars taught for a semester at the graduate school of business in Grenoble, France and in early summer, Lars joined the faculty at GVSU and Doris began to enjoy retirement.

In the spring of 1998, Doris took a weekend watercolor workshop from Loretta Sailors at Frederick Meijer Gardens.  She was hooked!  Since that time she has studied under Donald Davis at the Lowell Arts Center and Loretta Sailors in Grand Rapids. Doris has participated in several workshops and classes sponsored by Rivertown Artists’ Guild.
